A combination tamping machine, capable of surfacing main line and turnout track with an auxiliary lift arm (LE & RI for lifting of turnouts); vertical hydraulic lifting cylinders.
Diesel powered, operating on CN's Gauge Rail, which can be bolted or CWR & up to 141 lbs., head contact or head free rail, wood or concrete ties, in slag or crushed rock ballast.
 
The unit is capable of tamping both sides of each rail in out-of-face surfacing operations.
 
The machine has joystick controls and/or foot pedal controls to initiate a lift/line/tamp cycle as well as automatically advancing to the next ties to be tamped.
 
The machine is capable of split tamping LE or RI as required. 
 
Tamping units are designed with lateral displacement to allow for tamping of turnouts.
 
The machine is two axle (4 wheel) drive in transit mode, and 4 axle (8 wheel) drive in work mode.
 
The engine is Caterpillar C15DIT-ACERT ATAAC Tier III 540 h.p. @ 2100 RPM.
